
Bretagne Pole Naval: a cluster to federate and enhance the Breton shipbuilding industry |

To federate all actors of the Breton shipbuilduing and repair industry, a new cluster was created on December 11 in Lorient (Southern Bretagne). The “Bretagne Pole Naval” brings together already 40 Breton companies. Among them : DCNS, Aker Yards, Gamelin, Sofresid, SPIE, PIRIOU, etc. With a long shipbuilding tradition, 11 shipyards and more than 12,500 jobs, the Breton ship construction and repair industry plays a great role in the Breton and French economy.
To federate all actors of this sector, a new cluster was created on December 11 in Lorient (Southern Bretagne). The recently-created “Bretagne Pole Naval” brings together already 40 Breton companies, among them : DCNS, Aker Yards, Gamelin, Sofresid, SPIE, PIRIOU, etc.
Together they strive to :
build up and modernize the harbour infrastructures
- develop the activity of the companies and increase their visibility worldwide
- provide training focused on technical evolutions ...
The first project of the association is already in the pipeline : The cluster, with the financial support of the local authorities, will build a 180 meter long maintenance dock and lifting facility, planned to be operational in the second half of 2008.
